Best known for his work with The Comet Is Coming and Soccer96, Betamax Vs Clive Bell marks another experimental outing for Maxwell Hallett (Betamax), following on from his 2021 work with bassist Pete Bennie - Coma World. Betamax's father, Clive Bell, is a musician himself, have been a collaborator of dub and post-punk icon Jah Wobble. Being a veteran reeds player who was immersed within London's avant-garde music scene, it was only natural that the pair's shared interests would connect and collide for a project like Betamax Vs Clive Bell.

We have the pleasure of premiering the lead single 'Super-Visions' ahead of it's release on the 29th of September, which is accompanied by a beautiful video made by Polish artist Jakub Barancewicz.

The psychedelic nature of 'Super-Visions' is laid with a warm and constant synth riff, paired with a slow shuffling percussion, as well as an intermittent thundering drumming pattern which takes centre stage. Clive Bell's reeds contributions are calmer and pensive compared to Betamax's drums, producing lines which waft above interlocking percussive patterns beneath - resulting in a fascinating musical conversation. Jakub Barancewicz's visualisation is a perfect accompaniment to this dialogue, pulsing, shaking and reacting to the rhythms with which we're immersed. Jakub's video perfectly captures the trance-like-state which 'Super-Visions' sends you on.
