Midnight Snack Vol. 1

Mark de Clive-Lowe shares with us his new Midnight Snack Vol. 1 EP that blends through broken beat, house and downtempo into a sublime sunshine vibe.

After producing lots of jazz releases from the past two years with his Heritage albums as well as the Ronin Arkestra and Dreamweavers projects, MdCL is once again on the pulse with bringing multiple musical styles into a rapturous collection of belters. With jazz elements subtly coming through in these tracks, he returns to his early 00s broken beat vibes with this vinyl and Bandcamp exclusive EP out on Mashibeats in collaboration with Italy's Mother Tongue.

MdCL had this to say about the EP:

"Midnight Snacks are moments in time created in the dead of night - as the world sleeps, I get to imagine alternate realities. Through our imagination, we find new ideas and new possibilities, and share them in the hopes that we remind each other how things don’t have to be any one particular way. There’s always another perspective.”

With the dominant piano beginning on 'Joyful Resistance Pt 1', the double bass comes and sits in wonderfully on the dubby 3/4 hip hop beat - it grooves like an absolute beast! The synths warp behind and change to a warm strings sound for the summery house of 'Blue Hour'. With the piano trickling in between the spaces, the synth ostinato wraps around your ears like it's rippling in time with the heat coming off the ground as the sun sets.

The beats and basslines are front and centre in the flying high '37,000 Feet' with the catchy melody shuffling around the broken beat drums. 'Thanks Given' continues the downtempo with the filtered snare and hats breaking in with the house chords. The synth and piano solos are wonderful and the harmonies here provide that uplifting goodness we are used to hearing from his productions.

A tasty treat of fun dancefloor tunes - whack this record in your collection to start those summer parties right!
